Giacomo Rea nasce in Italia nel 1995. Dopo un'esperienza ad Atene, dove ha creato uno studio di scultura con l'artista Argiris Rallias e ha lavorato nel cinema nel film Son of the Carpenter, diretto da Lotfy Nathan, come scultore e set dresser, torna in Italia per concentrarsi sulla sua ricerca.

Diplomato in informatica, decide di intraprendere un corso di Graphic Design a Londra, dove capisce di voler lavorare di più con i materiali e allontanarsi dal computer. Si iscrive a Grafica D’Arte, seguito dai professori Cataldo Serafini e Tony Pecoraro, sperimentando le tecniche di stampa tradizionali. Inizia parallelamente a frequentare il laboratorio di scultura. Consegna, sempre iscritto al corso di Grafica D’Arte, una tesi scultorea riguardante le architetture primigenie in terra cruda, sotto la supervisione dei professori e artisti Emanuele Giannetti e Lorenzo Giotti.

Si trasferisce a Carrara, cercando una realtà più intima, paesana e naturalistica. Frequenta l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara per dedicarsi al mondo della scultura. Diventa membro e partecipa alla creazione di numerosi laboratori/studi artistici nel corso degli anni. Spazio6 (VA), Area M (BO), Basura (MS), Ponte di Ferro (MS) e Contrapposto Studio (Atene) sono alcuni degli spazi dove contribuisce all’organizzazione di eventi e alla cura dei luoghi.

Nel suo ultimo anno, prende parte alla squadra di Giulia Cenci per Dead Dance, installazione realizzata per la Biennale di Venezia 2022, e partecipa alla residenza Esercizi di Luogo a Hydra, in Grecia, nel settembre 2022.

Nel 2023, viene invitato al simposio in Bulgaria del DUPPINI ART GROUP, dove realizza RE-BIRTH ed espone IR-REQUIEM nel Museo di Sala Veratti (VA) durante la mostra organizzata e promossa da Wg-art, Leftovers.

È tra i soci fondatori dell’associazione TAGETE, attiva dal 2023, che organizza simposi e residenze itineranti. Fino ad oggi, TAGETE ha organizzato eventi al Forte San Jacchiddu di Messina con SINESTESIE, a Volterra con il simposio di Alabastro AGAPE e SPIT, un bando di ricerca vinto ad Atene dove, con un taglio più socio-politico hanno investigato il concetto di azioni artistiche e quanto queste siano influenzate dalla situazione contemporanea globale.

Giacomo Rea was born in Italy in 1995. After an experience in Athens, where he established a sculpture studio with artist Argiris Rallias and worked in cinema on the film Son of the Carpenter, directed by Lotfy Nathan, as a sculptor and set dresser, he returned to Italy to focus on his artistic research.

Having graduated in computer science, he decided to pursue a Graphic Design course in London, where he realized his desire to work more closely with materials. He then enrolled in Grafica D’Arte, studying under professors Cataldo Serafini and Tony Pecoraro, where he explored traditional printmaking techniques. At the same time, he began attending a sculpture workshop. While continuing his studies in Grafica D’Arte, he completed a sculptural thesis on primigenial architecture made of raw earth, under the guidance of professor and artist Emanuele Giannetti and photographer Lorenzo Giotti.

He later moved to Carrara in search of a more intimate, rural, and naturalistic environment. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara to immerse himself in the world of sculpture. Over the years, he became a member and contributed to several art studios and workshops. Some of these include Spazio6 (VA), Area M (BO), Basura (MS), Ponte di Ferro (MS), and Contrapposto Studio, where he helped organize events and maintain the spaces.

In his final year, he joined Giulia Cenci’s team for the Dead Dance installation, presented at the Venice Biennale in 2022, and took part in the Esercizi di Luogo residency in Hydra, Greece, in September 2022.

In 2023, he was invited to the symposium in Bulgaria by the Duppini Art Group, where he created RE-BIRTH and exhibited IR-REQUIEM at the Sala Veratti Museum (VA) as part of the Leftovers exhibition, organized and promoted by Wg-art.

He is a founding member of the TAGETE association, established in 2023, which organizes itinerant symposia and residencies. To date, TAGETE has hosted events at Forte San Jacchiddu in Messina with SINESTESIE, in Volterra with the Alabaster AGAPE symposium, and SPIT, a research grant awarded in Athens, where, with a socio-political focus, they investigated the concept of artistic actions and how these are influenced by the current global situation.
